Londoners can help make the city green again with electric bikes and vehicles.
Many Londoners are increasingly wondering if they should switch to an electric bikes and vehicles, if they haven’t already. Because electric vehicles have significantly lower operating costs, it is increasingly being regarded as the intelligent choice.
All of us can contribute to making London a more environmentally friendly place, whether we walk, cycle, ride a scooter, or take an electric vehicle.
London has already created meaningful strides to improve air quality and emissions, but more additional effort is required to avoid the most severe consequences of climate change. We all seek solutions to clean up urban transportation, and it’s apparent that London’s future roads will be electric.
Many people across London are wondering if they should switch to an electric vehicle, if they haven’t already. Since electric vehicles have significantly lower running costs, it is now being seen as the intelligent option.
Zero-emissions travel can be made easier.
Uber is making it easier for riders across London to choose zero-emission travel whether they are close to swapping to an electric vehicle or not.
Uber Green expanded their all-electric option to London before this year, we, so that riders can request a fully electric vehicle on-demand from anywhere in the city for the same price as an UberX.
In the future, it will be simple for Uber riders to go green as the number of electric vehicles on the platform increases. Currently, over 7,000 EVs are operating in London, a dramatic increase from 100 EVs in 2019, the most of any city globally.
A zero-emissions platform is what is being targeted.
The data also revealed that nearly seven million rides had been taken on Lime e-bikes and scooters in London since the company launched its service in the city nearly four years ago.
Uber has established ambitious goals for becoming a zero-emissions platform, whether you choose bikes, scooters, or cars. They hope to accomplish this across Europe by 2030. In London, they want to make the change quicker, so we can be the first major city on Uber to be fully electric by 2025.
Infrastructure that is suitable for electric charging is required.
An increase in charging infrastructure in Redbridge and Newham, two of London’s lowest EV charging infrastructure areas, would be a boon for Uber drivers. If we succeed, ordinary people across the capital will benefit as well. Uber’s £5 million investment will result in over 700 new EV charging points in these areas. This investment will increase London’s EV charge point network by over 7 percent.
The drivers operating on ride-hail platforms like Uber travel eight times further per year than those in personally owned vehicles, on average. As a result, these drivers know better than anyone else the importance of appropriate charging infrastructure and the advantages of keeping running costs down.
These early EV drivers can help underpin a real mass market switch to electric vehicles.
Finding common solutions is critical in confronting the climate challenge—governments, cities, and companies like Uber among them. We look forward to hearing about solutions at the Plug It In conference on November 24.
Collaborating to ensure that the EV revolution happens quickly could help make London cleaner and greener for all.
